Awakening shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Awakening, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
We were honored to be invited to sing in front of thousands at one of our church organization’s largest conferences. While we initially felt some nerves about taking our ministry to the next level, we’re grateful that God had already prepared us for the moment.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are **Awakening**, a gospel music group based in Tampa, Florida, passionate about creating music that stirs hearts, awakens faith, and draws people closer to God. What started as a small team with a heart for worship has grown into a ministry dedicated to lifting the name of Jesus through powerful, Spirit-led music.
Our sound blends contemporary gospel with rich harmonies and heartfelt lyrics that reflect our personal journeys and testimonies. We’ve had the honor of leading worship at local conferences and church events, and most recently, we were invited to sing at one of our organization’s largest national conferences—an opportunity that stretched our faith and affirmed our calling.
What makes **Awakening** unique is our deep commitment to authenticity—every note we sing and every lyric we write is rooted in real experiences and a sincere desire to impact lives. Right now, we’re working on releasing more original music that speaks to this generation and reflects the move of God we’re seeing in our communities. We believe worship isn’t just something you listen to—it’s something that transforms you from the inside out.
We’re excited about what’s ahead and grateful for every opportunity to be a vessel of God’s love through music.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Without a doubt, God saw us clearly long before we ever saw ourselves. Before we understood the fullness of our purpose, He had already planted the vision, the sound, and the calling deep within us. There were moments we questioned our abilities, our timing, and even our worth—but God never did. He saw the ministry before we saw the music. He saw the lives that would be touched before we ever stepped on a stage.
As a group, we’ve come to realize that everything we are and everything we do flows from His plan, not our own. Awakening isn’t just a band—it’s a reflection of God awakening something new in us, and through us, in others. We’re simply walking in what He already saw and prepared long ago.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a time we almost gave up. As a band, we hit a season where everything felt heavy. The excitement faded, motivation was low, and laziness started to creep in. The weight of life, distractions, and even our own flesh began to drown out the passion and purpose that once drove us. It wasn’t just a creative block — it was spiritual. We questioned if we were still called, if we were still effective, or if we had missed our moment.
But even in that low place, God was still there—patient, loving, and speaking softly through conviction and grace. He reminded us that this was never about us. It was never about perfection, performance, or momentum. It was always about surrender. And when we laid our pride, fears, and weariness at His feet, He revived the fire in our hearts and reawakened the vision.
That season taught us that ministry isn’t sustained by feelings or hype—it’s sustained by obedience and intimacy with God. We’re still here because He kept us, not because we kept it all together.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
One belief we’re committed to — no matter how long it takes — is the truth of salvation through Jesus Christ alone. We are unapologetically rooted in the Oneness Pentecostal faith, believing in the full identity of Jesus as the one true God manifested in flesh, and the power of His name in salvation, baptism, and transformation.
Everything we sing, write, and share flows from the message of Acts 2:38 — repentance, baptism in Jesus’ name, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost. That message is not just a doctrine to us; it’s our life, our mission, and our hope. It’s what saved us, changed us, and continues to shape who we are as individuals and as a group.
No matter how long it takes, we’re committed to sharing that truth through our music, our testimony, and our lives — because we believe real awakening only comes through a revelation of who Jesus is. As long as there’s breath in our lungs and a platform to stand on, we’ll keep lifting up the name of Jesus and pointing people to the saving power of His name.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When it’s all said and done, we hope the story people tell about Awakening is simple — that we worshipped like Jesus was in the room, because to us, He always was. We hope they say that every note we sang, every lyric we wrote, and every moment we shared wasn’t about us — it was about pointing people to the One who saved us.
We want people to remember that who we were reflected who Jesus is — not just on stage, but off. That when they encountered us, they saw humility, love, joy, and truth. That they experienced the presence of God through our worship, and that their hearts were drawn closer to Him because of it.
And beyond the music and the ministry, we hope they remember that we were just a group of people who loved to laugh, loved each other, and loved creating for the Kingdom. We weren’t perfect, but we were faithful. We stayed true to the message of salvation through Jesus Christ, and we never stopped proclaiming the power of His name.
That’s the legacy we pray to leave — that through Awakening, souls were stirred, lives were changed, and Jesus was glorified.
