We’re looking forward to introducing you to Misty Wells. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Misty, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recently I was awarded a Bronze Telly Award for my work on my TV Show “Let’s Take it Outside” for my season 5 work. I am especially proud because of the field that I am in, which is mostly dominated by men. I host an outdoor, adventure, fishing show that as far as I can tell I am the only female in my field. It is sometimes scary being in this position and can be very lonely but that being said it is awesome to pave the way for younger generations in my field that will soon take the reins.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi my name is Misty Wells, I am the Host and Producer of “Let’s Take it Outside” an outdoor, adventure, travel show that airs on Discovery Channel and 17 other networks worldwide. I have just wrapped filming Season 6 of my show and we will be airing 14 new episodes to our viewers. This season was especially fun as we visited and filmed in new locations from Alaska, British Virgin Islands to Costa Rica and Niagara Falls. When I started this journey 7 years ago, I am proud to say I am the first female host of an outdoor show on Fox Sports and now I have been able to grow my show to over 220 millions viewers in 50 countries and in over 20 languages worldwide.
I raised my 2 amazing kids as a single mom, my son Brennan is a Coast Guard Veteran and is now working in the Airfield on Planes. My daughter Hudson is a Navy Veteran and is going to flight school. My children are my greatest adventure and I am blessed to have a wonderful husband and family.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I would say when I was young my father told me I was a natural born leader, that always stuck with me and helped build confidence as I grew up. I was about 8 years old I believe when I was told that by my father.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I feel that suffering teaches all of us if we are willing to learn from it and not wallow in the hard times. Everyone I know has had hard times in some way or another, some more than others. One thing I try to do when times are hard is remember the Lord is always there with me and also that others have it much worse than I do. I feel like climbing the hill is what gives you drive and work ethic, if it were easy there is nothing to earn. When I got divorced with 2 young children, I was scared to death and felt like a total failure. Once I forgave myself and accepted it was the right thing I began to thrive. I someone thought my life had to be a certain way for me to be a success but I found out that life is not scripted and we usually get an even better life than the one we had in mind.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
100% I feel that I am always myself and even though my career is in the spot light and may seem a bit more glamorous to others everyone is still just a person and it is our job to be kind and grateful. I am really no different now than I was 30 years ago and I am happy to say that the people in my life would agree.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
That would be me most every day, I thrive on being out of my depth. At first is scared me but now I actually love it. If you are a little uncomfortable then I feel like you are not really living to your full potential. Life is so short and I truly feel that you really can do almost anything if you are willing to put in the work. If someone is truly committed to a goal nothing will stop you.
