Gypsi Erin DePrizio shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Gypsi Erin, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
As a dancer, I will lose track of time the moment the music stops being something I hear, and starts becoming something that I am. It’s in that breath between beats… when my body moves faster than my mind. Then, all the noise in my head goes quiet.
At that point, there is no overthinking, no doubt, no yesterday or tomorrow—just rhythm, breath, and instinct. I’m not performing anymore. I’m becoming.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is “Gypsi” Erin DePrizio. I am not just a performer; I am the girl with the smile. I light up the room. I start the party. I am a dancer with passion for stage, and I enjoy interacting with people. My craft has been formed through many years of study, teaching, and performing. I twirl fan veils, glide with isis wings, and will dazzle you with my fire show! Let’s dance with the children and get the birthday VIP up to dance. Perhaps you join the limbo line with me, or conga around the dance floor with grandma? My LED props also offer a stunning visual for both indoor and outdoor shows, creating a glowing spectacle. Whether you want elegance, excitement, or a little edge— I got you!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I knew from a young age that there was something about me—something people were drawn to. Even in kindergarten, I could feel it. There was this energy, this spark, and it came out so naturally when I interacted with others. I didn’t have to try. It was just me— That power, that connection, has been with me ever since.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I’m still on my journey—working through this every day. My goal is to reach a place where I feel truly secure in myself, ready to transform my pain into strength. Vulnerability is powerful; when shared at the right moment and with the right people, it can be deeply healing, both for ourselves and for those around us.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Far too often, dancers feel pressured to lower their rates just to book a gig. The reality is, our art is already undervalued, and when some choose to undercut, it drives rates down across the industry. This affects everyone—each show reflects not only the performance but also the countless hours of rehearsal, investment in costuming, makeup, travel, and unwavering dedication. A 30-minute performance is backed by years of hard work.
Undercutting isn’t just a short-term solution; it’s a cycle that diminishes the value of our craft and ultimately harms those who do it, too. The belief that lowering your price guarantees opportunity is a myth. By holding firm to our worth, we uphold the value of dance itself—and ensure fair compensation for all the energy, skill, and passion we bring to every stage.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I want people to know that every performance I give comes from a place of wholehearted dedication. Dance, for me, is not just an art—it’s a physical, mental, and emotional journey where I pour my soul into every step. My greatest hope is that, when people remember me, they’ll say Gypsi Erin brought class, flair, and beauty to every stage. That I was a true entertainer—someone who set the tone, sparked joy, and always brought authentic energy to the room. I hope my passion and care shine through, and that people felt happier because of what I shared. Most of all, I wish to be remembered as kind, generous, and radiating good vibes, both on and off the dance floor.
