We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jamie Edwards. Check out our conversation below.
Jamie, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One common misconception about Wave Makers’s Workshops is that you need to have prior artistic ability to participate. In reality, our workshops are designed for everyone, beginners, hobbyists, and experienced artists alike. Each session is guided step by step, so anyone can create something beautiful while enjoying the process and discovering their creativity.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Jamie Edwards and I was born to create! My life has been a journey through all things creative. I’ve had a long career as a hairdresser, studied jewelry design, explored the healing properties of crystal magic, learned woodworking from my father. Today, I channel my creative passion into teaching at Wave Makers Workshops, helping others discover the joy of creating, one project at a time.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Some of my earliest memories as a child are of watching Bob Ross. His positive outlook, gentle encouragement and affirmations showed me that art isn’t about perfection, it’s about joy, creativity, and self expression. His influence continues to guide my approach to both creating and teaching, reminding me that anyone can make something beautiful when they embrace the process.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to trust the creative journey and not worry so much about making everything perfect. Every experiment, mistake and adventure in art is a step toward discovering your unique voice, and it’s OK to take your time and enjoy the process.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what really matters to me is creativity, connection, and helping others find joy in making. I care deeply about fostering a safe space where people can express themselves, learn new skills, and feel proud of what they create.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
They say if you’re doing what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life, and that has truly been my experience. From running my first hair and tanning salon to exploring jewelry design, woodworking, furniture painting, creating art, and now teaching craft workshops, I’ve always approached my work with excitement and curiosity. I wouldn’t call it work, it’s a chance to create learn and share that joy with others. Every day feels like a new adventure and yes, there have been plenty of days where I literally felt like tap dancing to work!
