Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Taliaferro.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Ashley Taliaferro, and I’m a pediatric physical therapist with over 14 years of experience and am the founder of Beach Baby Pediatric Therapy. I earned my Bachelor’s in Exercise Science from James Madison University in 2008. Go Dukes! I then went on to obtain my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2011. The weekend after graduating, I moved to St. Petersburg—and instantly fell in love with this amazing city.
I began my career in a role that was primary clinic-based, but I quickly discovered my true passion: delivering therapy services in natural environments such as homes and daycares.
In 2014, Beach Baby Pediatric Therapy was founded to provide mobile physical therapy services throughout the St. Pete area. Since then, we’ve grown into a multidisciplinary team of incredible music, speech, occupational, and physical therapists serving families across Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough counties.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like with any new business, starting out came with its share of challenges. For me, the biggest hurdle was navigating insurance contracts, billing, and credentialing. Fortunately, I was incredibly lucky to have the support of several local business owners who generously offered guidance throughout the process. I’m proud to be part of such a collaborative and supportive community of therapists and small business owners in the area.
We’ve been impressed with Beach Baby Pediatric Therapy, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Beach Baby Pediatric Therapy proudly serves families throughout the Tampa Bay area—including Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough counties. We offer mobile music, physical, speech, feeding, and occupational therapy for children and young adults from birth to age 21.
All services are provided in natural settings such as homes, daycares, private schools, and even parks. This mobile model allows us to deliver personalized, functional care with less stress and greater family involvement.
At BBPT, we take pride in offering a full range of therapy services under one umbrella, ensuring seamless coordination of care across disciplines. We are also credentialed with Medicaid and work with a variety of insurance providers to make our services as accessible as possible. We believe that all children deserve the tools and personalized care to reach their highest potential. At Beach Baby, we offer specialized care with a family-centered approach—meeting children where they are, both developmentally and physically.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I never considered myself a risk-taker, and while in PT school, I never imagined becoming a business owner. So, founding a company that provides therapy services (especially one that works with insurance), was, without a doubt, the biggest risk I’ve taken. Every insurance provider has different processes, and those systems are constantly evolving. There are frequent glitches and unexpected changes that require you to respond quickly.
