Meet Ash of South Tampa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ash.

Ash, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was originally born in Northern Ireland during the Troubles to a Protestant mother & Catholic father which wasn’t seen as a positive! We moved to Dublin when I was five due to the Troubles, & then moved to the Isle of Man when I was nine. I went to a boarding school on the island called King William’s College, & when I was 16 in 2004 I moved to South Tampa. I attended Academy of the Holy Names for my Junior & Senior year & graduated Academy in 2006. I then went onto the University of Tampa & graduated early in 2009. My first two years at UT I worked at American Eagle (Westshore & International), but then started serving at CDB’s Southside on Westshore. After graduating, I kept my CDB’s job after graduating & starting to work at LoCicero Medical Group because I made about the same money in tips working Thurs-Sat night at CDB’s than my full time LoCicero job, & working both jobs was a grind! I then started as a Supervisor at AMC Theatres (Woodlands, Westshore & Veterans), becoming a manager in two months & after six months I became a Senior manager, a job I loved. I then moved into the gaming industry working for Pokerstars & moving to New Jersey for two years in 2016. In 2020, I went back to the Isle of Man for Covid, as being an island the island was largely shielded from it. In 2020 I also started my own marketing & social media business & my first YouTube channel, hoping one of those two things would take off. I have always wanted to pursue something in media, since I was first on a film set at nine years old when I had a small part in a Julie Andrews & Colin Firth movie, Relative Values. Over the years I was doing other bits in movies, working events, working for a studio in 2020, making friends in the industry & learning as much as I could, whether being paid or not. When I started my original YouTube channel, Ash Silver, I was largely using my knowledge of the industry, behind the scenes, my experience on sets & when relevant, information from friends or people I knew to explain things about filming, tv shows, shooting schedule of shows & how everything worked in general, & I would also review certain shows as well. I had always wanted to work in TV, & loved the movies too, so I had learned basic editing at UT, & then taught myself a lot more largely through YouTube. I wanted to make more extensive & detailed videos, & so in 2022, two years into having my original channel, I started a new channel, Coffee & Cults, with my co-host & star of the channel, my cat, Ms Gloria. At this stage I was picking up marketing & social media clients in my business too, my original channel was doing well & I was working my full time job, so in the beginning Coffee & Cults videos were few & far between, as on top of everything, they required a lot of research, writing & editing. Over 2022 through the first half of 2023, I had had a few videos do decently well for being such a small channel, I had more clients in my social media business & decided to attend a cohort by Paddy Galloway who taught me a lot about storytelling, editing, & the creator space. In September of 2023, after some successful videos, a lot of time, energy & hard work, I had a video about the Murdaugh family do very well for my very small channel, & then the following month in October 2023 I had a video about Danny Masterson’s trial take off & climb over a million views. From that point my channel has continued to grow & I have a wonderful audience who keep coming back & watching. My channel mainly focuses on long deep dive videos about the behind the scenes of Hollywood, TV Shows, celebrity crime cases, cults, fraud & a lot more, with some of my most successful videos being about a lot of 90’s & 2000’s tv shows (That 70’s Show, Buffy, Grey’s Anatomy, Sex & the City, Glee etc). This past June I was able to sell the majority of my marketing business & while I still do some consulting, I have transitioned into Youtube & Coffee & Cults being my main focus & full time job.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Living in four countries before I was 16 & having ADHD

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Coffee & Cults on YouTube is my channel where I make videos about a lot of different topics, from 90’s & 2000’s tv shows to Theranos to celebrity trials to Oceangate.

What are your plans for the future?
To continue making videos on Coffee & Cults, along with extra videos on my Patreon, Coffee & Cults Extra. Now that I am able to focus on YouTube full time, I hope to put out more content, to venture into some other areas & start posting on my second channel Coffee, Cults & Cats. I also like helping my friends with their YouTube channels & helping them grow.
