Rising Stars: Meet Shawn Brandon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn Brandon.

Hi Shawn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, I was always fascinated with Photography/Videography and I did it as a hobby for quite a few years in my younger years before finally deciding to take the leap to full time. At one point in time, I was a full-time musician and when that journey was finishing, I felt it was the perfect time to dive into photography head first. I started by doing concert photography because I was familiar with musicians, venues, and such. And from the first shutter click, I was hooked for life, because the same excitement I got from playing music I felt by photographing it. And 12 years later I still have those feelings.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The photography business, in general, is such an oversaturated market and you have to do things differently if you want to stand out. I’ve knocked on a lot of doors and been rejected plenty. The key to being successful is persistence and don’t follow the normal, break the mold and create your own style where when people see it makes them feel like they were there.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My main area of my work is based in concert photography. I’ve shot and worked with many big-name performers such as Kiss, Black Sabbath, Shinedown, Taylor Swift, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue, Judas Priest, just to name a few. I’m most proud of my originality of my work and that I’ve created a style of my own instead of looking like every other photog out there.

Any big plans?
Well, now that the world is slowly getting back to life I’m hoping to jump back out on the road and continue creating art that I can share with the world.
