Hi Pete, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi. Thanks for having me. I started my airbrush career back in 1993 as an apprentice in Portland Maine. I worked at a small mall kiosk with my boss/teacher.
A few years later I moved to New Hampshire, where I worked for another airbrush company and eventually purchased that business with a fellow airbrush artist. After 6 years, I sold my half to my business partner and moved to Florida.
Once in Florida, I continued to airbrush everything from t-shirts, murals, and all things automotive. Shortly after, I started doing events that grew slowly over 10 years. That was until I decided to focus solely on events. When this became my sole focus, my business expanded to 8 artists and a small marketing and admin team.
We now travel all over the country painting party favors live for events. The events range in size from small birthday parties to large multi-day events with thousands of attendees.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Before COVID, Airbrush Events were doing 30 events a month. That dropped to zero once the pandemic hit. Slowly but surely we have begun to receive calls for live events but the majority of the events we do now are virtual. We have created a system of hosting Airbrush Events live over Zoom. After the event, I ship the t-shirts direct to the attendees. I’m happy to say, this is working very well for us.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Most people’s experience with airbrushing is limited to seeing a t-shirt shop at a beach resort or amusement park. This is how the first half of my airbrush career looked like, but now I specialize in events.
I now consider myself more as an entertainer/event professional. Regardless of whether the event is virtual or live, making sure the event guests have fun and walk away with a smile is the most important part of my job.
The event industry has its own language, professional network, and code of conduct, something many airbrush artists are far removed from. But I am proud to say that the team of airbrush artists I work with are top-notch. My business would never be where it is today without the incredible team of artists and marketing personnel I work with.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I work hand-in-hand with event industry professionals like party planners, talent agents, caterers, and the like. Event planners and agents contact me and I work as a subcontractor for them.
But you don’t need an event planner to have Airbrush Events at your function, you can contact me directly to book us.
