Rising Stars: Meet Jordan Stone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Stone.

Hi Jordan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I became a runner in 2011. There were not any running clubs in my area that I felt welcome at or comfortable attending. I went to a Badass Lady Gang meetup in Chicago in 2019 during the weekend of the Chicago Marathon and it was there that the idea was born to start a chapter in Tampa. In November of 2019, I started the journey of starting a chapter in Tampa and we have been growing ever since. Fitness and running are both passions of mine. Helping women to feel strong and comfortable in their skin is also something I am very passionate about. Starting the Badasss Lady Gang Tampa Chapter sparked something in me and lead me down the path of becoming a personal trainer. I became a certified personal trainer in July of 2021 and work mostly with women. Being able to watch women grow and become more confident in who they are and their capabilities in my roles as a co-leader of the Badass Lady Gang Tampa chapter and as a personal trainer gives me a sense of purpose.

The Badass Lady Gang meets every Saturday morning at 8am at Armature Works. ALL women of ALL paces are welcome to join us.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Growing the Badass Lady Gang Tampa chapter has had its bumps. We started in November of 2019 and the pandemic shut the world down in March of 2020. We were picking up steam and really beginning to grow when we had to stop meeting. Official meetups were stopped for over a year. We got creative and began meeting virtually on Zoom every week. Doing that actually brought our group closer. Another struggle is getting new members to join us. Many women feel self-conscious/nervous about coming to a running club and that keeps them from trying us out. We really are incredibly inclusive and supportive and once women do take that initial step to come try us out, they tend to keep coming back.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a School Social Worker and LCSW. I work at a high school in Tampa. My skills as a mental health professional benefit me in working with women and athletes through the Badass Lady Gang and as a personal trainer. Our mental health impacts our physical health and vice versa. If we don’t feel good about ourselves, it is hard to get out the door and move our body. If we are in a place where we don’t move our bodies, it is hard to feel good about ourselves. My knowledge and background help to work on both at the same time in order to help people become the best/happiest versions of themselves.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned on my journey is that the goal is to be the best version of me daily and each day that best version looks different. I have learned to give myself grace if I can’t hit certain goals in the gym, on the run or in life and to trust and embrace the process, setbacks and victories.
