Today we’d like to introduce you to Duwod Salter.
Hi Duwod, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was originally a member of an organization that was geared more toward working with children. Through my journey with them, I was compelled to help those less fortunate (homeless). I have experience first-hand on what homeless people go through (family members). This made it even easier to want to try and do my part to help. I came up with the name and concept in March of 2013 and I’ve been working toward the eradication of homelessness ever since.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been an easy road. Although it’s become a lot better, the struggles were getting your name out there, generating donations, and recruiting long-term volunteers.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Customer Service Representative at the Hillsborough County Tax Collector, full-time. I process driver license transactions, conduct road tests, and issue Public Vehicle Driver Licenses. I have been in this profession for three years, but all of my work experience has consisted of customer service. I’m known for always helping out, going above and beyond, and being too nice 🙂 I’m just my own person, I’m pretty laid back. When I’m not working or running the organization, you’ll find me relaxing at home with my children
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was when my dad brought me home my first cat, her name was patches and she was a calico. I was so happy, that was when I realized my love for cats.
