Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Glade.
Hi Chelsea, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started wood burning to make holiday gifts seven years ago while I was a stay-at-home mom to 3 kids under 4. Once I shared what I made, more friends and family reached out for more wood-burned gifts. I became involved in a wood-burning community on Instagram. In 2017, a friend asked me to be a part of a local vendor market and I feel in love with that community. I have done local markets around Tampa for the last 5 years and my business has grown through local customers who keep coming back for gifts and worldwide customers who have found me through my Instagram page. Earlier this year I completed the Entrepreneurship Certification through HCC and was awarded a grant to work towards opening a storefront to support local artists and makers
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. What started out as a side gig while I focused on being a mom has since become my full-time job after being faced with divorce. But I’m determined the make this business into something that can support my family as I work to support our local artist/maker community.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a wood-burning artist. Everything I make is burned with my own hands and a wood-burning pen. I love to make pieces that evoke feelings and make people laugh. I am known for my sassy art but in real life I am kind of quiet and love to laugh. I love meeting my customers at markets and seeing their faces light up as they read each piece and find one to take home.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being open and accepting of all types of people and creating a community where people feel like they can be themself and find a piece that truly reflects their personality.
