Meet Taylor OBrien of Sun + Stone Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor OBrien.

Hi Taylor, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My story starts as a young kid in the early 2000s with a digital camera that had pink polka dots. I was OBSESSED with taking pictures – of me, my friends, my animals, nature, literally anything. This was prime MySpace era and I was living for it. Life happened and next thing I knew I graduated high school, married young & moved out of the country. I didn’t own any cameras besides the one on my phone but my love for photos never ended. Instead of taking photos of myself, I was now taking photos of my baby. I moved back to Florida, got a divorce, and eventually ran into my now husband. We have two of our own babies and he loves my oldest as his own. My husband ended up surprising me with a Canon rebel T7 and ever since that day, I knew this was what I wanted to pursue. I did countless free sessions for people, just trying to learn the basics. My favorite sessions are couples. There are just endless opportunities when you have two people that are madly in love in front of your camera! It’s been almost a year since I started this business and I’m looking forward to the many years to come!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. There are many things I’ve struggled with since starting my photography business. As I mentioned previously, I have three kids. Three boys to be exact, a 7-year-old, a 3-year-old, and a 2-year-old. My 3-year-old was diagnosed with autism and sensory processing disorder about a year ago so we are still adjusting. I also work full-time in an office setting. Trying to balance work, parenthood and photography has been trying. Having a supportive partner truly does make all the difference!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about TG Photography?
My all-time favorite sessions are couple sessions but I enjoy maternity and family as well. I’ve dipped my toes in the world of wedding photography and absolutely love it – maybe this is something I will pursue further, who knows! Birth photography is also a dream of mine but COVID rules and regulations have put that on hold for now. I think what sets me apart from others is that I try not to pose my clients, only point them in the right direction. I want my clients to be authentic and have fun during their session!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’ve never been known to have good luck. I truly believe that if you want something bad enough, and you work hard to get to where you want to be, it’ll happen for you. Believing in yourself is key.
