Meet Tamika Lopez of AKP Thrift

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Lopez.

Hi Tamika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
AKP Thrift is a social enterprise of A Kid’s Place of Tampa Bay located in Brandon Florida. A Kid’s Place provides residential services to children in foster care from birth to 18 who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, and abandonment. 100% net proceeds go back to A Kid’s Place. AKP Thrift has something for everyone, we have a women’s section, men’s, plus size, kids, accessories, home, and furniture.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a smooth road so far. we just opened the store in June 2021 so of course, as a new small business, we are trying to get our name out there!

We’ve been impressed with AKP Thrift, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
AKP Thrift is a boutique-style thrift store which is an expansion of A Kid’s Place of Tamba Bay. A Kid’s Place has served Tampa Bay’s most vulnerable children since first opening its doors in 2009. Since inception, A Kid’s Place has touched the lives of over 1,529 children and 675 families and remain committed to being a positive solution and offer hope to these children and families by doing even more.

AKP Thrift Store will feature quality clothing, household items, and more at a reasonable price. We also feature our S & B collection which is the brainchild of two of our very own teen residents. These collection includes candles, t-shirts, and tumblers, and more. We are extremely proud of them for making their vision a reality. Proceeds collected from the S&B collection will allow teens the opportunity to participate in life-changing experiences that will create memories to last a lifetime.

100% of net proceeds go back to helping brothers and sisters in foster care throughout the Tampa Bay Area.
