Meet Giovanna Maxwell of Giovanna Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giovanna Maxwell.

Giovanna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a child, my father and I would always shift furniture around in my room just for fun, and whenever I would sit by his desk I would always see pencil drawings of our house with amazing details and dimensions laid out.

At 6 years old, I watched him build an extension to my childhood home and I was right next to him with a tool belt, that didn’t fit, a hammer in my hand, and dust on my little knees. Looking back, I know my dad’s creative side and passion exposed me to my purpose.

As I grew up, I never knew Design was even a career option. I attended college and was still clueless as to what I even wanted to do with my life. I volunteered at clinics to shadow Physical Therapists and Chiropractors and quickly learned that the medical field was not for me.

As I was trying to figure out what direction to take my life, I was looking for a job, any job, to help pay my way through school. A friend of mine introduced me to the owners of a kitchen and bathroom design company where they hired me as their receptionist and they were looking for someone to level up in their company. I educated myself and I learned how to do 3D renderings, read blueprints, create presentations, and how to make someone’s dream kitchen come to life.

I was mentored and taught the ropes of this industry by some of the most talented designers in Largo, FL. These designers saw something in me that, at the time, I yet had to discover for myself. They reignited a passion in me for design, this was when I realized I was made for this.

A couple of years go by and I wanted to learn more about the industry. I felt as though there was so much more waiting for me.

I was then offered a position at a design firm in Tampa, FL to work alongside the most amazing mentor and coach in the industry. I was taken in and was trusted to manage her projects and was taught the ins and outs of how a whole home is designed. From commercial to residential, she helped me navigate through it all. She believed in me and showed it daily.

Fast forward to today, I am humbled to say that with all of my experience and knowledge in Design and Business, I now operate Giovanna Interiors as a Home Staging and Redesigning company that serves the Clearwater, St Pete, and Tampa bay areas here in Florida.

It took many mentors, lessons, and internal growth to become the woman and designer I am today and I wouldn’t change this journey for anything!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This journey wasn’t smooth or easy by any means.

If I am being vulnerable, prior to landing my first design job, I had faced traumas in a relationship that created limiting beliefs within myself and so much more. I was then diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 25 and it felt as though my whole life flipped upside down. It took intentional mindset shifts, God, and the right people to re-align me to become the woman I was always meant to be.

I quickly learned that even when something goes wrong, to consider it an opportunity to grow. Remain in faith that your story can be used to help others. I was told by a mentor that without running into a few struggles you wouldn’t have stumbled across your strength.

I learned that design is a lot like life; first, there is demolition which is stripping away the old, then the process may take a while to repair but once the design is complete, you can look back and say it was worth every inconvenience to finally enjoy such a beautiful masterpiece. We have to embrace the journey and grow through the lessons!

Becoming a business owner is most definitely the most thrilling thing I have ever done. It is a roller coaster ride and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. There is a certain mindset and diligence required to reach your dreams, and all you have to do is choose to stand back up and keep going!
