Life & Work with Mahogany Rochelle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mahogany Rochelle.

Hi Mahogany, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Mahogany Rochelle a crafty woman raised in south Florida who loves creating beautiful things. I started making jewelry for a couple of reasons. One being a suggestion of one of my best friends Alanna, and the second was because I got tired of seeing the same things in stores. In addition, none of the things I saw fit my wrists. So, I thought it would be a great idea to just create my own pieces in my sizes. Specializing in anything custom.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggles I faced, in the beginning, were more or less things I subjected myself to. I had a tendency to underprice/sell my products because I wasn’t sure how much things should be priced and just wanted to see people wearing my creations. I also faced diving into a market that is/was heavily saturated with phenomenal jewelry artists. Once I knew that I just needed to “do me” the road was definitely smoother.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
M Rochelle Jewels has it all! Handmade Loc Jewels, waist beads, necklaces, earrings, and everything in between. I’m definitely known for my waist beads, and Loc jewelry although I have to say making the Loc Jewels is by far my favorite thing to do. If I had to say what sets me apart from others it would be a few things number one product quality (I spare no expense to provide quality in every piece), the sources from which I purchase my supplies are literally all over the world mainly Africa (Kenya and Ghana as well as a few local shops), and just the consistency of providing phenomenal customer service experiences, whether it’s in person at a vending event, or through my online shop.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a child, I was very reserved and quiet. I was for the most part a loner with very few close friends and very crafty. I grew up going to schools for music and played a few instruments. But I chose crafting over music in the end and here I am 16 years later
