Life & Work with Jafet Centeno

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jafet Centeno.

Hi Jafet, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Well, I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and approximately five years ago I moved to Spring Hill, Florida to raise my family. My professional studies are in the IT field in which I have been working for 16 years now. One word that would define me is artistic. I grew up playing musical instruments, drawing, painting, and doing theater in school.

About six years ago, when my wife got pregnant, I got myself a good/pro camera to take pictures of her maternity timeline. Soon enough, I realized that photography is one of the most natural, beautiful expressions of art and I was able to capture some amazing moments of our growing family.

After a couple of months of posting my family photos on social media, friends started to ask me to do some work for them. From first birthdays, business launching to wedding photo shoots, it became my hobby to do photography, and with time, a lot of practicing and learning, I can now say I have a photography business.

What started as a personal hobby ended up being the perfect blend of my two passions, technology and arts. My family is still my favorite people to photograph but being able to do something that I love and have the dedication to do it for other families is rewarding.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
To be completely honest it hasn’t been all easy. I think like every new business it takes time and a lot of work to build up.

Personally, my biggest challenge so far has been time distribution. When you open a business other than money, time is the most important thing you need to invest in. From learning how to do it properly in terms of laws and government requirements to also taking that time to promote and do the work as well.

Having said that, even though it has been time-consuming when you feel passionate about what you are doing it comes naturally to want to learn about it and dedicate time and effort to it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

What do you think about luck?
