Life & Work with Isaiah Woods-Matteosian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Woods-Matteosian.

Hi Isaiah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been someone who prides himself on storytelling, putting my feelings through words and trying to reach people in a way I never have before.

Every time I write and hip-hop itself saves my life, therefore, I feel I have to tell the story to people so I feel I could I can try to save other people in a way. This is kind of a funny story, I was just fiddling around with rap and all this other stuff; I just ended up loving how expressive it was, how much aggression, pain, and happiness.

I can put out the fact that I can convey the words I was feeling at the time to paint a picture for other people.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road was never smooth, the potholes are bigger than others (laugh).

The road itself was really bumpy. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. I battled drug addiction, homelessness, and mental health issues.

I just went from not feeling good enough to be here to feeling like I’m the biggest force in the entire world. I don’t lack confidence anymore and that’s been the biggest vehicle to get where I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I put my work into graphic design, visualizations, and music. Anything I can pour my heart into artistically, I try my best to do so.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I figured out what my worth was and what plans I can make for the future. I found myself in a way I most likely wouldn’t have before COVID-19.

I also became more prideful in my heritage (African-American and Armenian) and I have to put my people on.
