Life & Work with Gisselle Flores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gisselle Flores.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 1998, my family moved to Tampa from the Dominican Republic. My father received an amazing opportunity to work for a company here and he moved in June to get everything settled for us and we followed shortly after, on September 1st, 1998. It was all very scary, we didn’t know the language, and we didn’t have family here.

We had left behind a huge family and support system. It took some time to get acclimated, but we later met some incredible humans that are now part of our Tampa family, we all helped each other so much along the way.

We moved from Tampa to Wesley Chapel in 2001, back when there wasn’t much to do out there but my parents had saved up and were able to purchase their first home in the United States, it was such an amazing achievement! Fast forward to graduating from The University of South Florida, where I received a Bachelor’s in Science degree in Political Science and then went on to work as a Property Adjuster for an insurance company.

I would eventually leave the insurance world and enter the world of Financial Crimes as a Financial intelligence Investigator for a big bank and later an investment firm. While I loved what I was doing, it did not fulfill me, and it quickly started to drain me. I was not happy working 9 am-5 pm, I felt like I had lost the direction of where I was going or where I wanted to go.

I purchased my first house at the age of 23, shortly after graduating college. My partner at the time and I were able to fix it up and it was my very first investment property. I loved the excitement that came with real estate, I loved learning about it and became obsessed with the industry. I went on to purchase several other properties, fix them up, and rent them.

So when the tough question came of what I wanted to do with the rest of my life and would I ever leave corporate America, I knew that it was time to take all that I’ve learned and share it with others. I met with my realtor, who was starting her own brokerage, and over some cheese, charcuterie, and wine I decided it was time to take the leap of a lifetime! I rushed home to my boyfriend (now husband) and told him all about my new life.

This moment was the greatest, most defining moment for me. This moment restored all faith I had lost in myself, I was fired up and eager to learn more and help so many others. I quit corporate America in January of 2020 and with the love and support from my husband, I took on real estate full time.

Shortly after, COVID hit in March and for a split second we both panicked and I couldn’t help but think that I had just made the worst mistake of my life! But I went on to sell 14 homes that the first year, despite the pandemic.

This is what gave me the certainty that I was right where I needed to be because, despite it all, I was working harder than ever, pushing myself like never before, and having so much fun doing it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has certainly not been a smooth road! Real Estate never is!

In my first year, shortly after COVID hit things were very slow and I didn’t have an income. I was fortunate enough to have such a supportive partner but I didn’t have my first transaction until September of that year. I was putting in the work and not seeing much in return and that really messed with me for a while.

But once, I got the momentum going after my first deal, I knew that all I had to do was put in the work and the work will take care of me.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Realtor by trade but I like to think of myself as a home matchmaker! I love finding the perfect home for my clients and their needs. I specialize in The Tampa Bay Area and have really had a chance to learn about so many different markets in this area from buying properties and living in them while we renovate them.

I am known for bringing transactions together and making sure I fight for my clients while being fair, honest, and friendly to anyone on the other side of the transaction. Kindness really does go a long way and I find that’s what sets me apart from a lot of other agents.

Not only do my clients get great service and communication but I can promise that the other agent will too. I can honestly say this is something that I am most proud of, regardless of how many transactions or successes I’ve had, I haven’t lost myself and continue to treat everyone with kindness and respect.

I think that is something that is often lost in this industry.
