Today we’d like to introduce you to Giovanni Cerro.
Hi Giovanni, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started writing poetry when I was very young, I’d say around 9 years old.
Fast forward to my early 20’s I started collecting typewriters and writing poetry on them because I loved the style.
After leaving my job at Tesla I saw a woman in Portland Oregon writing poetry on demand in a little market and the light bulb just clicked on.
When I came back to Saint Pete, I knew that “on-demand poetry” “street poetry” “poet for hire” what was I wanted to do.
So ever since then about 4 years ago I’ve been on a mission to give poetry to the people. I believe that everyone deserves a poem and that’s why I want to try and write a million poems.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the beginning of my journey, I was putting myself out there so much. That I completely burnt myself out and retreated to the north GA midtowns for 8 months to gain clarity on If poetry was actually going to be my mission. Now I have a great routine that fills my cup up so I am well equipped to handle the emotions of people when I am out. As an empath, I take on people’s energy so I need that downtime to refresh my soul…
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in and known for writing. Custom on-the-spot poems for people.
What I am most proud of is that I decided to take a chance on writing poetry for a living instead of listening to all the people who told me I needed a fancy degree and years of internships to become a writer.
I’m also clear in my goal that I am not looking to win awards enter in poetry contests. I am the poet for the people for people who don’t normally like poetry.
What does success mean to you?
Happiness & authenticity.
My life’s motto is do more of less.
Meaning find what you love and do that as much as you can.
Sometime we get caught up in finishing the bucket list that we forget to enjoy the moments.
