Life & Work with Courtney Kerr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Kerr.

Hi Courtney, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a nurse practitioner for over 13 years. When the pandemic happened, it was extremely stressful. I felt like I lost my spark. I quickly became burnt out.

After a lot of encouragement from my friends and family, I started an Instagram page for my home decor ideas. I should also add that in the last five years, I went through a lot of changes including divorce. I also remarried. I’ve always loved decorating and fashion. My husband and I purchased our new dream home and it’s been very exciting decorating it and making it our own.

I didn’t want my home to look like every other cookie-cutter home and I had a very difficult time finding style inspiration that matched my style. That’s why I was inspired to start my own account and share my style with others. My goal is to help inspire others to create and design a home that they love.

I have been blessed with many opportunities to collaborate with some fantastic brands, and I can now say I am doing this full-time. I am also working on a blog and hope to put more time into that as well.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Initially what held me back was fear. Fear of walking away from the only career I’ve ever known. Fear of failure.

Social media is also a very tricky thing to navigate. It takes a lot of work and consistency to establish a presence. There are periods of stagnancy and periods of growth.

It can also be difficult to negotiate with companies who want you to promote their products. Some of these companies want you to promote their brand, but only want to pay you with free product. You have to remain consistent even when you aren’t seeing any growth or benefit.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I primarily do home styling ideas and tips. We have a lot of unique features in our home that we have DIY’d.

One thing that sets me apart from some of my peers is some of my DIY ideas. I don’t do things by the book, I do things because I like the way that it looks. I don’t believe that your home should have to fit into a mold.

It should reflect your own personal sense of style. I stand by that and always will. I usually come up with the ideas and my husband helps me execute them.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I have a lot but if we are going along the theme of what I’m doing now, I always loved rearranging the furniture in my room and restyling different areas of my bedroom. I was always trying to get a “new look” for my bedroom.

I also have always loved “fancy things”, just like my mom. I owe my eye for style to her. ☺️
