Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Strange.
Hi Amanda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began my career climbing the ladder in finance: from big banks, a prestigious government intel agency, consulting for the military, to managing cost for an 800-million-dollar contract. It was a successful career by any standard and it took me all over the world. But after two degrees and 15 years, I felt burnt out and unfulfilled. I could no longer deny my calling to a more creative and artistic field, something I always ignored since I was constantly in survival mode and already so invested into this career path. In 2019 I got microshading, a form of cosmetic tattooing, done on my eyebrows and it changed my life. Not only did it solve my lifelong dilemma of having to fill in my brows, but it made me feel SO confident. What I didn’t expect was that it awakened such inspiration and passion in me to give other women this same gift of beautiful brows, confidence, and simplifying their lives.
Soon after, I got certified as a brow artist by the best in the industry and obtained my tattoo artist license. Just recently in 2021 I transitioned from employee to full-time entrepreneur and opened my own brow studio here in Tampa, Florida. The business is off to a great start and it’s been super fun along the way. While entrepreneurship is a scary leap to take, it’s been one of the best decisions of my life. I still have to pinch myself that I get to do what I love every day. I am living proof that it is never too late to start over and go for your dreams.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Entrepreneurship has been a journey. I dreamed of quitting my day job and being my own boss for many years. The fear of the unknown and giving up a secure paycheck can be paralyzing. But for many of us creatives, that nagging feeling of never being satisfied with an unfulfilling 9-5 job never leaves you. I truly believe you will never find peace until you’re in alignment with your purpose and your passion. Every single company started with an idea and a dream. While it does involve a big risk, it also can involve a big reward if your heart is in the right place and you’re willing to put in the work. To start this Permanent Makeup business the way I wanted to and provide a luxury service to clients, I had to plan and strategize, sacrifice and save up, and grind harder than ever. Even though it is a LOT of work, it truly doesn’t even feel like work when you’re doing what you love and working toward your own dream, and that is the sweet spot. It’s been rewarding beyond my wildest dreams. And it all started with me randomly finding that spark in something that combined my talent, my passion, and my mission to uplift other women.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Powder Brows, which is a form of cosmetic tattooing also known as microshading. Similar to a body art tattoo but not quite the same- I use a tiny needle to gently implant and layer dots of pigment into the skin. The result is defined brows that heal soft and powdery. Each set of brows is custom-shaped to the client to look as natural as possible, which is why the service takes at least three hours. After 2-4 weeks of healing and a complimentary touch-up, the brows will last anywhere from 1-3 years before fading and require minimal touch-ups to maintain. Brows do wonders to transform the face and make a HUGE difference. Not many realize this but over 60% of women fill in their brows! So, Powder Brows is perfect for those of us who spend a lot of time and money on our brows, or never could master the perfect, even shape we all dream of. It saves clients anywhere from 10-25 minutes of valuable time a day and best of all, gives a huge boost in confidence. You never have to worry about wiping or sweating your brows off again. You can wake up and go without any makeup at all.
Tell us more about you. What are you known for? What sets you apart from others and what are you most proud of?
I am most proud when I see the look on each client’s face when they see their brows for the first time. I have had many clients become emotional and even cry, and it fills my soul every single time. I also love keeping in touch with clients, seeing photos of their brows, and hearing how happy they are. Since I started as a client myself, I know how much I love my brows and how much they changed my life, and I want everyone to feel this way. I also do a special giveaway for breast cancer survivors who lost their brow hair, and it is such an honor to give back to these incredible women.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is uplifting other women. I am a feminist at my core and I just absolutely love women and everything about us. It is the value I hold most important. I feel like women give so much of ourselves to others, to our families, our communities. Yet we often neglect our own self-care or feel guilty for treating ourselves. But I truly believe every single woman deserves whatever brings her joy and makes her feel beautiful. And now I get to literally make women feel beautiful for a living. It is more than a job; it is a dream come true! It takes a lot of trust to let someone tattoo your face! So, I really bond and connect with every single client who sits in my chair. I am really fortunate to get to know these women and hear their stories every day, which only leaves me even more in awe of women and how powerful we really are. So, I aim to uplift each of my clients and get them to see the beauty I see in them. It is really such a joy!
