Life & Work with Allison Garnett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Garnett.

Hi Allison, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey a few years ago when I realized that I no longer wanted to work for a company that treated me like I was disposable and who would replace me the next day if something happened to me. I decided that I would rather scrape by working for myself than let someone else line their pockets off my 60/70 hour work weeks.

I had been in real estate for over 10 years and I saw people were making money off of investment properties and spent some time reading books, listening to podcasts, and networking with people who had already been successful in doing what I saw as my end goal.

At the end of 2021, the startup that I was working with dissolved and I was given an opportunity to take a few months to not work and focus on my goals without having to fit it in between a regular 9-5.

I promised myself that if I spent a couple of months truly focusing on the end game, and it became a tangible business model, I would continue what I was doing in lieu of getting a new position with another company.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are highs and lows. Some days are extremely stressful, and some days you feel like you are absolutely free. Owning your own business is something you live in constant fear of failure.

Naturally, failure means not being able to pay your bills… so there are days in which you worry if you are making the right choice for your family’s future. The obstacles are more so internal struggles. Am I making the right decisions?

What if I fail? Gaining the freedom to be able to work when you want to work, being able to pour yourself into something that you love for 14 hours a day is a very different feeling than having a demanding job working for someone else.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am most proud of the non-profit organization that I have started with my friends about online bullying.

I have been a live streamer for about 8 years, and the way I have seen people speak to one another so harshly on the internet has driven my team and I to begin a movent speaking out against the impact of your words and the effect they can have on someone. It makes me proud to be a part of something so profound and to have the potential to impact so many lives. I have had the opportunity to travel around the country and meet some extraordinary people who have shared their personal experiences with me and I am excited to share their sotries, for the future of this non-profit, and to be able to bring to this growing issue the spotlight it deserves.

It makes me very proud to be a part of something so profound and have the potential to change so many lives. I have had the opportunity to travel around and meet a lot of exciting people
