Inspiring Conversations with Stephanie Shimmin of Salt and Sage Healing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Shimmin.

Hi Stephanie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from massage school in 2005 in TN from MTSU and immediately got a job as a massage therapist at a chiropractor’s office. I worked there for five years and raised my daughters on my own working as a massage therapist. I opened my own little place in the country until I moved to KY. In KY I had new experiences in my career first at a high-end spa, where I met my now fiancé, and then I worked as a massage instructor at a technical college. I’ve always wanted to own a larger massage studio and after doing this for 15 years I was ready to do just that. But I didn’t want to open one in KY. My fiancé and I talked about it and finally decided we would move to St Petersburg so we could open our own place here. This is literally my dream come to life.! I love what I do. I love to help people and make them feel better.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My first struggle was getting a divorce right out of massage school and raising my children by myself on one income. I had to work very hard and late hours at times. There were years I struggled finding the right job that was a good fit for me so my parents helped me and I opened my own place in the country, where I lived.

Moving to FL was another struggle, a good struggle though. We have no family here. We moved here not knowing anyone and without jobs. It’s been an exciting adventure.

As you know, we’re big fans of Salt and Sage Healing. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a small massage studio that puts their clients’ needs first. We are known for our deep tissue and therapeutic massages. Also, for our expertise in prenatal massage. We want to make massage affordable so we offer great rates with no hidden fees for deep tissue, essential oils, hot stones, and cupping. Our therapists are thoroughly trained in all of the massages we perform so you know you are getting a good massage by someone that knows what they’re doing. We care about each and every one of our clients.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
We are constantly learning new techniques and new modalities through our continuing Ed we take every year. I love to learn new techniques.
