Hidden Gems: Meet Mandie Foster of Native Cocktail Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandie Foster.

Hi Mandie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have a background working in the hospitality industry in service and catering aspects. What I learned about what I love to do in work and what I need to feel satisfied in that is being able to make new connections, visiting new places, and being able to go above and beyond for clients whether that is taking the time to make their set up extra special or taking a minute to say hi. The little things matter and are the things that help people remember you. This combined with an entrepreneurial spirit and natural creativity led me to start my own business. A little after COVID started, it gave me an exit from my past job that I was at for a few years which turned into a new start for me and a push to do something different. With much new free time, I turned a small hobby into something more. First with a dream to open up my own bar and then with the idea to start with my own curated craft cocktail pop up business. I created Native to represent the kind of craft cocktails I felt are lacking in many bars that I’ve been to near and far. Native is founded on using fresh, real, and hand-crafted ingredients with a focus on balancing and pairing these flavors to create irresistible cocktails that are appealing to the eye and the palate.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is so much that goes into starting a small business especially when want to do it the right way. It can be a lot in the beginning with start up to make sure you have all the necessary documents and proper back end processes put into place. A part from that all other small business owners know how important it is to craft your image and brand on social media and your website so I will say that is a whole different discussion. There is much to balance in launching a new business, branding, and networking if you want to come out of the gates running. While it can be consuming at times, there is a thrill in putting in all the work and in learning so much along the way. I will say that running a small business means you are constantly learning and growing whether it is about your craft, running a business, networking, or social media there is always more to learn. You may start on the curve but it is up to you to decide which way that curve goes.
