Hidden Gems: Meet Jen Baker of Clean Juice Trinity

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Baker.

Hi Jen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I have had a passion for health and wellness since our children were born and as a former elementary school teacher I love teaching others about how they can create a healthy lifestyle for themselves and their families. We have always been an entrepreneurial family as my husband owns his own lawn & landscaping business that he grown into a successful company. Once my children were born I retired from teaching to help my husband run his business and I ran my own outdoor boot camp for a few years but when I decided to homeschool my kids, I had to set that aside to focus on my family. When my kids were older and more independent in their learning I was able to receive my life & health coach certification. I loved working with others to teach and encourage them to reach their health and wellness goals! Then my daughter came home one afternoon talking about this amazing place called Clean Juice and that we had to go check it out. So my son and I headed to Tampa and when I walked in it felt like home. I remember turning to my then 13 yrs. old son and saying, I want one of these! Everything about it from the look, the music playing, the prayer jar, the incredible ORGANIC juices and foods… this was what I loved!! My son turned to me and said, “Mom, why don’t we see if they franchise?” He then searched them up and encouraged me to reach out to them saying, “What do you have to lose?” My husband took a trip to check it out and was also instantly impressed and ready for our next venture! We truly felt the Trinity area we had lived in for over 15 years needed a Clean Juice.

We involved our teens in the entire process from Discovery Day, where we flew out to North Carolina to learn more about Clean Juice and interview with the corporate team, to selecting a location, to marketing for our area, to building the inside of our store, to training in North Carolina through the final stages of opening! The process took several years and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect as our kids were old enough to help manage and run our store alongside us when we were ready to open! Our daughter became our GM and our son, a shift lead. They have helped us build an incredible team and we have never looked back! It has been such a rewarding experience and we LOVE getting to know our customers and sharing our passion for health and wellness with our local community!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life is ever easy and our story has not been without its many challenges but everything we have gone through as a family has only made us stronger and without God in our lives we wouldn’t be where we are. When my daughter was 12 years old, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It was shocking and everything happened so quickly. The tumor had been growing for 18 months and was now putting pressure on her brain and had to be removed right away. She had to undergo brain surgery to remove it and we were told that there would be a possibility that she would wake up without the ability to swallow as the tumor was in a difficult spot. The doctor jokingly said, it would be nice if it just peeled off. So, that is what our family and community prayed for and on the day of her surgery, that was supposed to last 6-8 hours, a miracle of God happened. Her tumor peeled off! Of course Abbi had to endure recovery and physical therapy but she beat all the odds through it all. In fact, a month after surgery she was able to play at her piano recital and returned to karate, slowly of course. This experience made our family stronger than ever with God in the center of it all. We will never know what caused her tumor but it was a shift for us in how we looked at our health and wellness.

We really started looking at the chemicals in foods and moved towards organic options as much as we could. It’s one of the many reasons we felt so strongly about opening a Clean Juice in our community. One of the other struggles that made this all quite a journey was that we opened our store only two months before the COVID pandemic occurred. It’s difficult as it is to open a new business but to open with a pandemic made it that much more challenging! In April it became hard for us to support our employees and keep them on and we had to run the store by ourselves for four weeks to help alleviate some of the costs. We are open seven days a week and had to adjust our hours of operations so that we could make it work all while my husband continued running our other company. Running a Clean Juice is hard work. We cold-press all of our juices in house so doing this with just our family running it! We were exhausted by the end of each day but we preserved and stayed open through it all! The blessings from this were getting to work alongside our kids, truly learning the ins and outs of the business and we met so many people and really got to know our customers. The support from our community was incredible and we wouldn’t have made it through without them! We were slowly able to add our employees back thanks to the PPP loan and we endured through! Each month was a little better and now that we are in 2021 our store is doing much better. In fact, we are ready for our second store!!

As you know, we’re big fans of Clean Juice Trinity. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a 100% USDA certified organic juice bar! We sell organic smoothies, acai bowls, toasts, wraps, Greenoa bowls (our version of a salad), fresh juices, and cold-pressed juices which we make IN HOUSE! We are the ONLY USDA certified organic juice bar in our area and that’s what sets us apart from others out there! I am most proud of our cold-pressed juices and our cleanses! If you are going to cleanse, you should only cleanse organic. Cleanses allow your body to rest and reset and your body can’t do that if you are flooding it with conventional produce filled with toxins and chemicals because then it has to work hard to get rid of it and can actually end up over-toxifying your body. With our USDA certified organic cleanses you TRULY get to rest and reset your body! We have FIVE different kinds of cleanses including a beginner cleanse, our original cleanse, an anti-inflammatory cleanse, immunity cleanse and an energy cleanse! They are all amazing and our customers love them! We also LOVE our customers and provide a premium guest experience from the moment you walk in our door! We want to ensure you are given quality products that will keep you healthy in body! We also strive to keep you strong in spirit with our prayer jar, gratitude book and we love to take the time to talk to and encourage our customers!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Honestly, I don’t believe in luck! I believe in having faith in God and trusting Him in everything I do! Our family prays about every decision and we wait on God’s timing. It’s not always easy to wait and trust in Him but when we do, there is so much blessing that comes from it.
