Hidden Gems: Meet Clint Dunlap of MATERIAL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clint Dunlap.

Hi Clint, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a hair colorist by trade. I attended hair school in Tampa and immediately moved to NYC upon graduation. I wanted to learn from the best of the best, at the most elite salons in New York City, so that’s what I did. I landed a job at Marie Robinson Salon where I was mentored and trained by celebrity colorist Marie Robinson. From my 8 years living in the city, I eventually built a large clientele for myself, doing lots of work for film, tv, and magazines, with my own celebrity clients. Fast forward to 2020, my family and I decided to move back to Tampa (not covid related). I still travel to NYC for a week at a time, every 6 weeks, to take care of my clients. I am also opening my own boutique salon in Tampa at the beginning of 2022

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My assistant/mentorship program in NYC was very intense and long. To be the best, you have to start from the bottom and claw your way up in the New York and Los Angeles hair world.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MATERIAL?
My first salon, MATERIAL, will be opening in Tampa, FL at the beginning of 2022. MATERIAL is an intimate, boutique, new style of full-service hair salon that provides premiere color and styles to Tampa’s elite. Top stylists from NYC and LA bring our cultivated quality of work to the rapidly growing community.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Marie Robinson- taught me everything I know about hair color and the celebrity hairstylist world. Some other hair mentors are Mark Debolt, Harry Josh, Jen Atkin
