Exploring Life & Business with Ryan Edwards of Great Heights Creamery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Edwards.

Hi Ryan, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am an ICU nurse from Brooklyn, NY. I have been a nurse for 9 years but the last year and a half have been very hard. I went through the beginning of COVID in NY, which was devastating. It had a major impact on me mentally and emotionally. My wife and I decided we wanted to live closer to family, so we made the big move down to Florida with our baby daughter. I got a job at a hospital in St. Pete, again in the ICU. I soon decided that it was time for a change. I didn’t want to have a career that was so engulfed in sadness anymore. I wanted a job that makes people happy and puts smiles on faces. My wife and I have been making ice cream for about 8 years as a hobby… We would give it to friends and family and they would always go crazy for it. I always had a dream of turning it into a business. I knew that I needed a cart that was as amazing as the ice cream I was making. After doing a lot of research, I couldn’t find what I was looking for so I decided to build the cart myself. I worked on it every day in my garage while my daughter was napping. I am really proud of what I created and will be selling scoops at few local farmers’ markets. I am ready for this business to take off.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I am still working as an ICU nurse. I am trying to do both until the business starts to take off.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Great Heights Creamery creates artisanal, small-batch ice cream. We combine local, grass-fed dairy, free-range eggs, and organic raw cane sugar to churn super-premium ice cream. Our goal is to create fun, interesting, and unique flavors with the highest quality ingredients. We sell our ice cream from our mobile cart that can be found at farmers’ markets and is available for all types of private parties, events, and weddings.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I was a kid, we would go to my grandma’s house every Sunday for sauce and meatballs. I have a big family with a lot of aunts, uncles, and cousins. It was a great tradition and when I think back it gives me a warm feeling inside.
