Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Florio.
Hi Mike, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my own personal fitness journey 10 years ago after being diagnosed with severely high blood pressure.
At the time, I was drinking every day, depressed, and eating extremely unhealthy. Being only 29, I did not want to take medicine and I sought ways to better my health through fitness and nutrition.
What I found was changing my body led to a profound change in my mind as well. I developed habits that were sustainable, I had more energy and I was proud of my results. The positive impact on my depression and self-esteem was immeasurable.
Seeing my transformation, I started to get asked by friends and family for help on their own journeys. Helping others make sustainable changes in their lives became a passion of mine.
The fitness industry is full of “quick fixes” and gimmicks that see people’s results fade in time. There are countless products to sell and programs to join. My mission became clear. I needed to show people how simple making lifestyle changes can be. How building better habits and consistency was the key to success. Not a special diet or 90 workout plan.
I developed a coaching program that focuses on knowledge, mindset, and habit building. I wanted people to feel hope and see the light at the end of the tunnel versus feeling lost in their fitness endeavors.
Fast forward 10 years later and I have an online coaching business that allows me to work with anyone, anywhere as well as with local clients at Sky Athletix in Lutz.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! The fitness world is so saturated.
There are so many products and so many coaches that it is difficult to stand out while retaining your integrity. My program is all about simplicity and that can be hard to “sell” with all the noise out there.
People do not want to hear that attaining long-term, sustainable success will take time. Consistency and habits far outweigh the diet or workout plan. The biggest obstacle is showing people there is no “magic” despite what others are selling.
We’ve been impressed with FLO Personal Training, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
FLO Personal Training helps people turn their dream body into reality through sustainable nutrition habits and strength training. By focusing on building strength, remove the need to always chase an atheistic goal. My clients quickly realize that a strong, well-moving, and healthy body will look amazing as well!
The biggest thing that sets my program apart from others is the details. Most personal trainers focus on one thing, the workouts. While workouts are important, that is only one small piece of the puzzle. There are so many other variables (nutrition, sleep, mindset, etc.) that have a more profound effect on a person’s success than just what workouts we do.
I focus on those variables by teaching my clients how to build sustainable habits that work synergistically with the workouts, maximizing their results.
I’m most proud of integrity.
There are a lot of false promises and gimmicks in the fitness world. I am proud that I deliver a system that works and works really well without compromising my morals. I don’t care about “selling” my services, I care about helping people make actual changes in their life a reality.
