Exploring Life & Business with Chris Allen of The Rooster Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Allen.

Hi Chris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Despite being born in Memphis, TN, and raised in the same house for the first 18 years of my life, I’ve spent the last 28 years becoming an agent of experience and change. My journey to becoming an entrepreneur began as merit and need-based scholarship recipient to attend Rollins College in Winter Park, FL pursuing a B.A. degree in International Relations.

After living in London during my senior year and working at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, I developed an interest in East Asia. I pursued this interest by teaching English in China, attending Johns Hopkins for International Affairs, and further studying Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan. This gave me an astounding appreciation for different living standards, points of view, and ways to communicate.

My multidisciplinary education and international experiences prepared me well for my subsequent 15-year career working in corporate real estate for companies such as Starbucks, Moe’s Southwest Grill, and P.F. Chang’s. These positions, based in Washington DC, Atlanta, GA, Austin & Houston, TX, and Denver, CO. ranged from Director to Partner.

Leading the Denver office for a Texas development company provided the final stepping-stone to starting my own company. Stress comes with any occupation and my stress has often come from within, so I decided that I might as well make a living from it by forming my own company

In 2018, I founded Fourth Time Partners real estate development company with my Atlanta-based business partner to build memory care facilities in Texas. This business has flourished and led to other opportunities in the state of Florida including building micro-hospitals.

Given my mother’s struggle with dementia and my wife’s career as a Senior focused Occupational Therapist, the founding of Fourth Time Partners seemed a natural fit. This bold move allowed me to return to my wife’s hometown and son’s birthplace, St. Petersburg, FL.

My second start-up business, The Rooster Group, began upon my return to the St. Petersburg/Tampa area in 2019. I partnered with one of my collegiate-best friends, Tyler Leban, who has been working as a top Associate Broker with KW-Tampa Central in the region for 20+ years.

My commercial real estate background paired perfectly with Tyler’s wealth of residential experience. We both recognized the need to develop a real estate business model based on authentic, long-term relationships, not just short-term transactions. Our job is to focus on the details, so our clients can enjoy the important aspects of their life from family to business success.

Because my family (blood & in-law) have either passed away or moved out of the country (Philippines), my wife, son, friends, and business partnerships have become my chosen family. The Rooster Group has become a meaningful way to connect with new people around the Tampa and St. Petersburg communities through the dedication of time and money to the following organizations: Metropolitan Ministries, the ALS Association, and LCC Church.

In addition, I have recently been elected to the Northeast Little League (NELL) Board. This organization provides an outstanding opportunity to support boys’ and girls’ baseball in a safe community-based atmosphere. Overall, I’m thankful for my unique personal and business life experiences because they have provided perspective on a wide variety of incomes, cultures, lifestyles, and generations.

The Rooster Group is associated with KW Tampa Central and provides real estate expertise in Residential & Commercial Real Estate as well as Property Management. We serve the greater Tampa/St. Petersburg area with a combined 40+ years of experience and $500M+ in transaction volume. Inquiries may email or call 727-281-0110.

Based in St. Petersburg and Atlanta, GA, Fourth Time Partners is a real estate development firm focused on health care and senior living facilities. Inquiries may email or call 727-281-0110.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Very few journeys that are worth taking involve a smooth road. As long as you seek out silver linings and learning moments throughout your life, you will develop more dynamic and positive responses to future difficulties. In my case, obstacles have included divorced parents at a young age,  numerous family deaths within a 6 month period in 2018 and my wife’s parents moving back to the Philippines in 2021. This has created an incredibly strong bond among my wife, son and me. We seek out positive relationships within our community, church and school to create that supportive environment that allows us to thrive despite the loss of our traditional families at a relatively young age.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The Tampa/St. Pete’s area is naturally beautiful with a coastal vibe that is being positively infused by other cultures and urban experiences from the West and Northeast.

The infrastructure needs to keep up with the rapid increase in the population and our local residents need to be careful about complaining about those from other areas moving here. An inflow of new residents keeps an area vibrant and open to change.

A static life is a boring life.
