Exploring Life & Business with Anissa Deen of Rolling Tin Cafe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anissa Deen.

Anissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started one day as an idea. I was fed up with working for someone else and having to deal with a lot of work responsibilities for not enough pay. I came up with this random idea of opening a mobile tea shop. Not just any tea shop. I wanted it to be out of a vintage camper. A few days later I decided it should be a mobile coffee shop who also served tea. Somewhere people can come up grab a cup of coffee and hangout or even use the camper as a coffee bar for events. Weddings, birthdays, baby showers, you name it. Growing up I always had ideas of having a business but never took that idea seriously because all I was taught was go to school, go to college, graduate and find a corporate job. That didn’t go so well for me. I did go to college and graduated in Radiation Therapy but that didn’t make me happy or satisfied. I failed my board test twice and had no clue what to do in life so I just started working a 9-5. Two years later I came up with the business idea and the next day we were in Okeechobee, FL buying a 1967 Fleetwing camper.

I had no clue what I was getting myself into but I did it anyway. My partner and I are huge DIYers, we are all about do it yourself. It took us about year and half to get Rolling Tin Café remodeled due budget and minimal knowledge for old campers. Then COVID hit. I perfected the cold brew process and started selling it in the middle of the pandemic for extra income. We also donated bottles to local hospitals to support our Healthcare workers during the hard times. In December of 2020, I finally finished Rolling Tin Café and had my first event in January 2021. I am very excited to see what the future holds for us this year.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I encountered many challenges starting Rolling Tin Café. Luckily, I had so much support from my partner, as well as family and friends I made through the journey. It made this process a little less stressful. When I first got the camper it was in really bad shape, we had no clue how bad it was until we started taking things apart. Being as transparent as possible all I can say is that the build was ROUGH, it was a total rebuild from top to bottom. We replaced the supporting wood, gutted the whole interior, added insulation, re-framed walls, replaced all the metal siding and even had to get the bottom frame welded. Many sleepless nights, wanting to give up and “why am I even doing this?”. Through all those challenges I encountered on the way, I was able to succeed and learn so much from them. I gained so much knowledge in the process and for that I am very grateful.

As you know, we’re big fans of Rolling Tin Café. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
