Daily Inspiration: Meet Ivy Pacquing and Vanessa Javate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivy Pacquing and Vanessa Javate.

Hi Ivy and Vanessa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are a small family-owned business based in Florida, founded by sisters, Vanessa and Ivy. Ives & Bees was born out of our belief in the many benefits of natural products and our desire to make them accessible to more people. We handcraft natural products in small batches using non-harmful ingredients for our bodies. We also consciously use containers, labels, and packing materials that are environmentally friendly.

It all started when Vanessa’s oldest daughter got the family into handmade natural soaps. They noticed the difference and loved the many benefits of the natural ingredients in their soap so they started using natural soaps on a regular basis. But they soon found out that it can be expensive to buy handmade natural soaps regularly. So, Vanessa decided to do lots of research and tried making soaps herself at home. After much trial and error, she finally found the perfect balance and started giving some away to family and friends. Thankfully, they had positive feedback and enjoyed using her soaps. In fact, Ivy loved using them so much she encouraged Vanessa to share them with the world! Since then, Ivy has learned and developed a passion for candle-making herself. With plenty of doubts, hesitations, frustration, testing, paperwork, and everything else that comes along with starting a new business, Ives and Bees was born.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
We both have two girls; these cousins love spending time together, and we are luckily our husbands enjoy hanging out with each other too. However, Vanessa lives in St. Pete and Ivy in Miami which is about four hours apart, so it does get a bit challenging to work together from a distance.

Also, Ivy has a full-time job as a business analyst so balancing work, home life, and setting aside time for Ives & Bees work is a struggle at times. Vanessa was a full-time nurse for many years and is now a busy mom running around and managing the household. It can be difficult to juggle our family file and small business responsibilities but we love getting together, we love creating, and most of all we really have fun working with each other so we find ways to make it work somehow.

We are so happy we found something that we both enjoy and are passionate about.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We make handcrafted products such as candles, soaps, scrubs, lotion, body creams & other body products using natural ingredients.

Our bars of soaps are handcrafted in small batches. We use essential oils for their many benefits and to add scent. The blend of oils in our soaps will cleanse your skin without stripping it of its natural oils keeping it soft and supple. Our soaps and body products are very gentle and moisturizing making them excellent for repairing skin irritations and perfect for sensitive skin.

Our candles and wax melts are handmade with all-natural soy wax and are hand-poured in small batches as well. Soy wax is derived from natural vegetables and is 100% biodegradable. Our candle collection is made with essential oil-infused and non-toxic premium fragrances. We use lead-free cotton wicks and wooden wicks. Our beautifully crafted vessels can be repurposed and used as containers in the kitchen or storage for arts and crafts.

Our products are available for wholesale and we can make custom scents and labels great as party favors. We have worked with other small businesses and local shops. We love collaborating with other makers!

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Vanessa and Ivy were born in the Philippines. We are part of a large family with 4 total sisters, and 2 brothers, which made for plenty of great memories growing up. The Philippines is a tropical country so we enjoyed all kinds of fruits and other natural foods as kids and we took delight in the nature around us.

We lived together in our twenties in New Jersey. As young adults, we had lots of fun times with friends and experienced the exciting city life being so close to New York City. Our lives’ twists and turns have given us the opportunity to move around to different places – Brooklyn, Chicago Connecticut, New Orleans, Indiana (between the 2 of us) and somehow, we both ended up in Florida.

We believe all these places and the people we met along the way have broadened our horizons and have made us who we are today. We have no doubt, all these influences are reflected in our creations in one way or another.
