Daily Inspiration: Meet Monica Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Brown.

Hi Monica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began as a little girl, helping my mom in the kitchen. I would help her gather the ingredients she needed to make her cakes or pies. As time went on, I graduated to measuring and making the icing for the cakes. After finding my mom’s cookbook once she passed, it inspired me to start baking myself. Using her cookbook and recipes, I cultivated my baking path. As time went on, my confidence in the kitchen grew, and one of my daughters told me that I should start selling my cakes and cupcakes. It was at that moment I began to question myself. Despite the compliments and great reviews, I did not think I was ready for the next step of selling my baked goods. I took a leap of faith. I started advertising on social media, and it has been a wonderful experience ever since. In July 2020, I left corporate America and became a full-time baker and treat maker (shout out to my husband for supporting and believing in me). Today, I am working on a baker’s cookbook. I also teach classes helping kids and beginner bakers to bake and make treats.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
One of the challenges that I face is the consistent need to go over, and above the customers’ expectations. For instance, when a customer request an item that I am not experienced with I will spend countless hours researching and practicing to deliver the customer’s special request.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Baking and trying new recipes has always been one of my favorite things to do however, over the years I learned that homemade cake is my specialty. I am best known for my custom red velvet cake. I am most proud of stepping out of my comfort zone of making traditional homemade cakes. I am not your typical baker at The Most Baker each customer receives the ultimate VIP experience from start to delivery. The Most Baker is a one-stop shop, customers not only have cakes to choose from but a wide variety of treat options.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First I want to thank God, because without him, none of this would be possible. Then to my family and close friends. They advertise, promote, share, and patronize me. My husband Gerard is my delivery driver, and my prayer partner (we have to keep the faith). My daughters Maurnica, Isis, and Shawnisha are my apprentices, and making sure we stay on track and getting orders out the door on time.
