Daily Inspiration: Meet Josefina Herrera Sanders

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josefina Herrera Sanders.

Hi Josefina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I was told art would not pay the bills. Though I found much fulfillment in creating, it was embedded in me that to be successful I had to become a doctor or maybe even a lawyer. So I put my pencils and notebooks away and resorted to education.

At 23, I got married and was diagnosed with Depression and Anxiety. It was then that I picked up pencils and taught myself a new craft, calligraphy. I drew and journaled my way into my business, Love Offering.

In 2017, we had our first miscarriage. As I tried running away from my grief, art built a bridge for me to grieve and find healing. I began finding myself through calligraphy and writing. My Instagram became a home for vulnerability and softness. Something I never thought I’d be able to do.

For so long I ran away from my craft because I thought I couldn’t make a living with it. But what I didn’t realize was that the more I hid from my calling, the more I lived for others. After years of sharing my journey of mental illness, infertility, and loss, I am now a twin mom, rebuilding my business, and tending to my healing one day at a time.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road, even if social media tells you otherwise. One of my values is to always be transparent. To show up in this world with intention, and intention to me is being honest even if it may be a bit tough.

Some of the struggles I’ve endured in this journey are loss, rebuilding my business from the ground up, starting over, trying to find my niche, and truthfully healing from childhood trauma as it comes up within my business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist and a writer, living and working from Tampa. I specialize in calligraphy, content creation, copywriting, and branding design. I also offer to coach and mentoring for those looking to create consciously and intentionally.

I am most proud of the works I’ve created in the midst of my healing journey like my books “The Mourning Sister, a journey of grief and joy” Cuidate: an ode to soul care” and my favorite shop item: the angel baby remembrance ornament that honors angel babies.

What sets me apart is the heart I put into my work. I know people say don’t mix business with pleasure, but what brings me the most pleasure is being my honest self and sharing it with the world. Being able to hear “I’m not the only one” trumps any fear of sharing vulnerability.

What do you think about luck?
I can’t say that it’s been lucky for me. As a black woman, and as a daughter of immigrants, nothing has been easy. I’ve had to fight for what I have, and have to continue fighting while healing and advocating for others that look like me.
