Daily Inspiration: Meet Amanda & Melissa Navas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda & Melissa Navas.

Hi Amanda & Melissa, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We had this innate and uninhibited urge to reconnect with our roots and our culture because of our grandmother. Although my sister Melissa and myself always talked about opening our own business, it never came to fruition. Things started to align when I left my good-paying, corporate job in April of this year because of its toxic work environment. We had further confirmation that it was time when Melissa left the company, she was with of over 16 years because of position and title reorganization. It was then that she decided it was time to go and it was no longer in her best interest to stay. With no plan B, we decided to go full force in our business. Not knowing what we were going to do at first, it just came to us when we bought a small ‘make your own candle’ kit that we were doing just for fun. We use candles all of the time in our spiritual practices, why not make Intention Infused Manifesting Candles that could help others?

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Working with siblings is probably the worst idea ever! Lol. But, in all honesty, working together is all about compromising and making sure we communicate with each other. We struggled in the beginning with so many ideas and disagreements we realized what came to us naturally was helping others on their spiritual journey and their manifesting needs.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I (Amanda) am a Navy vet. I served 8 years active duty as an Operations Specialist and deployed twice. I’m also a mother of 4 and wife. After the military, I joined the corporate world of accounting. Besides my family, I am most proud and humbled to be able to be a voice, even if it’s small, for our culture. To be an activist and vocal about dismantling the stigma with Indigenous and African Spirituality. Our Ancestors had to hide their traditions and practice their Spirituality in secrecy. Our biggest takeaway from our business is being able to help and contribute to our community. Melissa started working at a young age and worked her way through the ranks into senior positions at a company she worked for over 16 years with. She is a mother of 3 and is always active in the community. What she is most proud of is showing her children, as well as her nieces and nephews the importance of being active and contributing in the community with volunteer work.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
By year 5 we will have our own storefront and contributing more within our communities. Bringing awareness and open-mindedness with Indigenous and African cultures and spirituality.
