Conversations with Trebor Raze

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trebor Raze.

Hi Trebor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey to creating my own clothing line all started back when I was in high school. I’ve always had a passion for fashion and I was a huge sneakerhead. I never liked getting the matching outfits that come out with the shoes but I loved creating my own designs and shirts that matched the shoes. Over time I kept getting compliments from my friends & classmates and got encouraged to start selling t-shirts around the school, and to my surprise that was a huge success because I was just doing it to get some extra pocket change for lunch or for the next pair of shoes. I had no idea it could possibly turn into an actual business.

Once I graduated high school, I had old friends reach out to me asking if I still designed clothes, that’s when I realized I might actually have something good on my hands and that’s when I started to take the idea of creating a clothing brand seriously. I started going to small business owners’ workshops and meetings and was able to create great connections that have helped my business grow to where we are today. We’ve sold items to customers outside of the United States and we are still growing and expanding our customer base to this day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think every entrepreneur/business owner has experienced some struggles along the way, but it’s all about what you learn and take from the obstacles you go through. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs trying to run a business and creating my own clothing brand, from manufacturers messing up full orders, shipping issues, and just the amount of competition in this industry, are just a few of the hurdles I’ve encountered. Prioritizing the brand has probably been my biggest struggle so far. Little things here and there in my personal life have caused me to lose focus on the business sometimes but that is something I have been working on and have improved tremendously.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
To put it plain and simple, I design and sell clothes. I specialize in making urban streetwear and athletic clothing. What makes me proud and sets me apart from most fashion designers/entrepreneurs is the fact that I am actually colorblind. Being colorblind hasn’t stopped me or hindered me while running this business though, it has taught me to find ways to be more creative.

What makes you happy?
Seeing people happy and wearing items from my clothing line makes me happy. It’s a great feeling seeing an idea that I came up with back in high school actually come together and people like it. My goal is to continue to grow this brand and hopefully become one of the largest clothing brands in the world.
