Conversations with Sammy JO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sammy JO.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Sammy Jo. I am about to be 25 years old, I started around when I was 15 years old my husband who wasn’t my husband at the time got me into karaoke and a band noticed me and I started doing some songs with them they actually told me pink was gonna be at a bar which she wasn’t but they knew that would motivate me.

I ended up singing with them and started singing with all the local bands around and I decided I wanted to do my own thing I started in a country band at 18 but it wasn’t what I wanted it didn’t have the energy I wanted it didn’t have the seriousness I wanted and so I decided to start something my own.

It took me a lot I went through many musicians and even friends that didn’t take me seriously, especially because of my age and being the way I was but I finally formed Jezabelle and it’s still taking me a few years but I’ve gotten everything that I’ve wanted as far as the players and we just keep continuing to strive as a band.

I’m very excited to see what the future holds for us as an artist myself I have many accomplishments and a very high resume as far as working with well-known musicians and having 2 originals out in movies and series and I continue to just keep working forward and trying to better myself in my career and succeed as much as I can.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road when I 1st started becoming a musician and becoming a lead singer of a band I thought that it was gonna be the easiest thing on Earth and it’s actually not you have to put a lot of work in.

You have to put a lot of heart into what you’re doing to what you’re doing a lot of promoting a lot of time working on the songs the lyrics learning all your things and when you’re supposed to come in but the musicianship is what’s really serious there are so many musicians that don’t take you seriously.

Don’t do the homework that they’re supposed to do and don’t put in the work that they’re supposed to do to be abandoned altogether and all together and so it just took me a while to actually find that and be where I actually wanted to be at.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So music is the main thing I focus on it is my life it is my absolute passion it’s everything I want to do I decided when I graduated high school that I was going to go to college to be a veterinarian.

But when I started doing karaoke and singing with different bands I decided that music is my life and all I want to do is sing so that has been what has set me forward and has touched me apart from others as I feel like I’m very a go-getter for my age.

I’m very old souled I’m very genuine and I am very different I just feel like I’m a very unique person my personality isn’t like much I know I can be a little over the top sometimes but I’m always at the end of the day the best person you can be and I try to be The very best person I can be honest.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband deserves the most credit he has pushed me to the extent I’ve never thought I could he has made me go gain so much confidence in myself that I never thought I would have.

I just give all the appreciation in the world to him because I never thought that I would express my talents like I had that we’re so buried unless it was for him
