Conversations with Katie Wiley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Wiley.

Hi Katie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
As with any good story, Oracle was born out of a labor of love. In 2018, I had started to take on clients (usually friends or friends of friends) that needed help setting up their socials, branding, or running ads on Instagram and Facebook. This was usually done in my free time between two other jobs. It was incredibly rewarding to see such incredible results and great feedback from clients. I knew one day If I worked hard enough, I’d be able to do this full time. By 2019, I had decided to leave my comfort behind and try my hand at living in a new city – St. Petersburg. I’d visited from Nashville off and on since 2015 for holidays and knew immediately this was my next step. Flash forward to 2019, when I finally made the jump. Now, several years later, and pandemic be damned, I’ve been lucky enough to hire on two very talented friends, expand our reach and client base – and quit my full-time job. Sometimes you’ve just gotta take the leap!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Obviously, we’re living in interesting times. All the books I’d read on a dystopian future never prepared me for this! Surprisingly though, the pandemic opened up more opportunities than I’d have thought – social media was especially popular during this time, with TikTok bursting onto the scene and folks being stuck at home, we all turned to our phones and TVs for emotional support. The key to this kind of business operation is being flexible. I always reference Murphy’s Law. Anything that can happen – will. So, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Attitude is everything!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in compelling ads, graphic design, website design, and branding along with social media management. The SMM is actually the easy part. Creating content that converts into sales has always been our number one goal for our clients. We love a good challenge and although we tend to focus on local brands and the beauty industry – we have worked with several name brands and individuals that you both recognize and love in the Tampa area.

What sets us aside from other agencies is our style. We have a very unique style, and that’s been a big part of why our clients choose us. I (Wiley) have managed a career in the beauty industry for nearly 15 years. Lalie, our creative director has worked as a stylist for countless celebs in Nashville – including Miley Cyrus, Jack White, & The Killers to name a few. Danielle who is in our client relations department is an interior designer by trade. So needless to say, we’re artsy AF. I love my dream team and I’m so proud to have them.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. My dad tortured me with this phrase growing up – but honestly, it applies to everything.

Be prepared for the worst, but maintain a good attitude. Sh*t will always hit the fan, it’s important to be ready, have plans and backup plans set up, and take things in stride.

All in all? Just be compassionate to your fellow human beings. Especially in times of crisis. This year has divided a lot of folks, and I’m hoping if we ever “get back to normal” that we will put more emphasis on kindness.
