Conversations with Aleisha Key-Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aleisha Key-Williams.

Hi Aleisha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a young girl, I have always had a niche for building and creating this with my hands. I helped my dad work around the house, which gave me knowledge of how to handle tools.

I really honed in on my gift when moving to Fort Lauderdale, FL 7 years ago.

I built and created all of my apartment’s decor and furniture pieces ever since I have been refurbishing and creating custom furniture pieces as well as introducing accent walls to my repertoire.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oddly enough, I have not had many struggles. I have been blessed with a great support system, including my mentor that has assisted me along the way in giving me a heads up on specific scenarios that could happen to better prepare me for my next steps.

I would say my struggles are not pertaining to running the business, but more so building challenges while on the job.

Of course, it comes with the job, but I’ve had to redo parts of a wall that I have installed already because the measurements were off, dealing with uneven walls in making sure the wood is straight or having to buy additional materials for the furniture build because the original item used was not working as planned.

I love what I do, and it isn’t seen as a struggle but as a learning curve to enhance growth within me and Key Avant.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Key Avant Furnishings specializes in custom furniture and accent wall design and build.

I am most proud of how far I have come in my craftsmanship with woodworking, learning various wood types, how to work with the different types, and creating something beautiful using a natural element. The thing that sets Key Avant apart from others is the exclusivity and willingness to actively listen and hear my clients’ needs.

I like to solve a problem within their home by bringing the wow factor. I create profound pieces with out-of-the-box styles. I want my pieces to be unique to my clients and one of a kind. Once you receive your piece no one else will have the same piece.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned is the business paperwork, ensuring everything is in order on the legal side of running a business.

This can be so many things, but mainly contracts, company documents, and learning what my business may need regarding business credit. This can also include my company’s process in how to book me for designs, social media content, and business insurance.

Staying on top of those things is the most important.
