Conversations with Adesha Hobbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adesha Hobbs.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
End of 2017 I started planning to start a clothing line. I was stuck for months couldn’t figure a name or what I wanted the brand to represent, I just knew I had to start something for myself couldn’t see me working for anyone for much longer. At the time I was heavily into Black History and still is but it was all fresh to me the knowledge we were withheld about our ancestors so I took what I learned about the our history and built a brand behind it. SHABAZZ the name came to me in studies from a book called Blackroots Science. The history behind the name was the exact representation I wanted for my brand. The next year, I put my vision to work and started SHABAZZ in February of 2018.

Today, we are still pushing black history into our designs or in our quote but switching it up from the normal and making idope/timeless pieces.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, we done felt every emotion pursuing this business. One of the biggest struggles is keeping the brand going, it’s been times where I wanted to quit because things become extremely frustrating from placing orders to fulfilling them, and sometimes orders coming in complete screwed up and having to take that loss on product, time, and money.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full-time entrepreneur, spending most days planning new drops, photoshoot, collabs, and even parties for our other side of the business. Shabazz is known for its black history influence worldwide. We are most proud of our history. The thing that sets us apart is our boldness within the brand, we speak and say things others are scared to speak but know it’s in the air. We are prideful in what we believe.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Books wise we have a few, BlackRoots Science, The Four Agreements and The Tao of Wu are some of my favorites go to.

Podcasts we like Earn Your Leisure.

Other resources and influence are those like-minded people in the same field as us, such as Kool Kiy, Nipsey Hussle, and GPC in Miami.
