Community Highlights: Meet Elena Ward of Pretty Fit Fitness and Pretty Fit Everything

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elena Ward.

Elena, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started when I was younger. I’ve always had a love for fitness and wellness because of my parents. My father is a retired United States Air Force, mother, a Physical Education teacher, and my brother a collegiate football athlete. So with that being said, we always had hard work ethics and fitness incorporated in our lives at a young age.

This allowed me to continue my love for fitness and wellness after graduating college at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL. Upon graduating from college, I decided to join the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, my love for fitness grew even stronger. While serving, I was a Physical Trainer Motivator in tecPhysical Training Leader. It all started when I was younger. I’ve always had a love for fitness and wellness because of my parents. My father is retired Air Force, mother, a Physical Education teacher, and my brother a collegiate football athlete. So with that being said, we always had hard work ethics and fitness incorporated in our lives at a young age. This allowed me to continue my love for fitness and wellness after graduating college at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL with a degree in Health Information Management.

Upon graduating from college, I joined the United States Air Force. While serving, I furthered my love for fitness by becoming a Physical Training Motivator in technical school and then once getting to my first duty station, I became a Physical Training Leader. I enjoyed fitness so much while serving I decided to get my personal training certification through ISSA and Zumba instructor certificate. So in 2015, that’s when Pretty Fit Fitness LLC was born. I named it Pretty Fit because I don’t look at myself as this self-proclaimed bodybuilder fitness guru but, I look at myself as being “ pretty fit” not just fitness-wise but looks wise too. I played on words and I love the blend of fitness being a strong and beautiful thing. That you can still look pretty and workout. That women often shy away from certain things like weights and certain exercises when it comes to fitness. Most women in my experience do this in fear of losing their feminine shape or appearance.

So I wanted to make it my mission to help women to see that you don’t have to be afraid of working out and lifting weights. That you can lose weight the natural way after children. I wanted to educate them that you can still be “pretty” and “fit” at the same time. So I also decided to take my love for fitness even further after having worked at several top commercial gyms and not being able to use my creativity and vision to the fullest. I decided to open up my own fitness studio in 2017 in Waldorf, MD. While running my fitness studio and being a mom of two boys and a wife at the time. I decided to take my education further and really embody my vision for my Pretty Fit Fitness aka Pretty Fit Everything™️ brand. Which is educating and providing my clients with professional Fitness, Nutrition, and Beauty advice through knowledge and the power of motivation. With doing that, I wanted to make sure I was educated and trained accordingly. Not just another pretty face on social media trying to sell women a dream without having the proper training or skill sets.

So I enrolled in Esthetician school at Spectrum Beauty Academy in VA and I graduated and got my license to be an Esthetician which now I’m licensed here in FL. I also got another certification as a Fitness Nutrition Specialist and attended culinary school at Stratford University. I then went on to create and produce a fitness DVD that launched in 2018 called Pretty T.R.A.P. Dance Fitness™️ which stands for Team Rhythm Aerobics Party. I came up with this brand of class by me loving to dance and incorporating bodyweight exercises as well as using the beat of the music to help you do your repetitions to burn off those calories to tighten and tone. I went on to teach this class several places around town to include the Department of Health, The United States Department of Labor, at elementary schools, corporate and private events. Unfortunately right when my brand was starting to take off my marriage started to fail. So I had to shut down my fitness studio in MD and I moved back to Florida after my divorce.

However, I haven’t let that stop me I have been working hard ever since. When I first got here, I was finishing up getting my second degree in Business Administration and Marketing, balancing being an active single mom of two, working a full-time job, and still working hard to rebuild my dream, my brand, and my reputation since moving back to the Tampa/Brandon/ Riverview area. Since then, I have graduated with my second degree from Strayer University here in Tampa, Florida. I have been working hard on making a name for my fitness brand by now offering online training through my fitness app and on demand classes through my website and continuing to grow my brand Pretty Fit Everything™️. Which embodies my motto “Being Pretty Fit is a Lifestyle not a Trend” Which includes my signature bath and body brand named B Pure Escentuals™️ my self-defense line Pretty Self Defense™️, clothing line Lena Michele Athletics™️, and my soon to launch nutrition brand Pretty Yummy Blends™️. I’m a woman and mom on a mission!

I will continue my mission on helping men and women live a healthy and fit lifestyle in all aspects! Most recently, I obtained my Florida life insurance license and became a wedding officiant as well! I love a little bit of everything when it comes to fitness and lifestyle and I want to continue to help motivate and educate others on how to live a healthy lifestyle and living life to the fullest! God and Fitness has helped get me through some tough times and made me not only physically stronger but mentally stronger, it’s much more than just looking pretty! I’m a woman, I’m a mom, I’m a veteran, I’m an entrepreneur, I’m a minority-owned small business and I’m unapologetically me! I’m going to continue to learn and grow within myself to help build my brand to help others and educate them on living a pretty fit lifestyle! I’m an entrepreneur that’s here to stay in Tampa, FL!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of my struggles included going through a divorce, being a single mother, balancing a full-time job, going back to college full time, Having to balance spending time with my children keeping my kids active in sports and school. All while trying to go for my dreams again. Being tired, wanting to give up! Staying self-motivated!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is a fitness, wellness, and lifestyle brand. I’m an Air Force Veteran and graduate of Florida A& M University and Strayer University. I’m a certified personal trainer, certified fitness nutrition specialist, certified mat pilates instructor and a speed agility and quickness specialist. I also have my FL esthetician license, FL life insurance license and FL wedding officiant certification. My business specializes in providing fitness, nutrition, wellness, and lifestyle change training, motivation. and coaching. I feel like my brand stands out from most because. I’m not just helping train people and send them on their way but, I know that in order to help people really make a change, you have to help them get in the mindset of creating an overall lifestyle change as well in all aspects. I’m available to train in person and online through my fitness app and my online on demand videos. I offer online teleconference sessions for coaching sessions or consultants to get you on track. I offer a skincare line and services, nutrition products and services as well as life insurance quotes and policies. I’m proud that my brand isn’t scared to help my clients from youth to adults with their overall lifestyle and feel like I have to stay complacent and not grow and adapt to the changes that my clients need to excel!

My clients and customers include training and conditioning for youth athletes. Postpartum weight loss and core strengthening. As well as men and women who are looking to lose weight and tone.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I would say that I’ve had good luck and bad luck but I don’t even want to call it that. I would say that I’ve had life lessons. I have learned how to deal with dealing with friends with business and dealing with family. It has taught me how to handle things and how to move forward in the future. However, if you want something bad enough, you have to know things don’t always happen by luck; it happens by continuing to push through and make the best out of situations be it good or bad. Some battles have been easier than others to fight through but all of them good or bad have helped mold me and my business into the brand it is today and continue to surpass my own expectations!
