Community Highlights: Meet Brittney J. Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney J. Williams.

Hi Brittney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
In the summer of 2019, I left my corporate job of 4 years without a plan other than knowing I was deeply unhappy with the path I had chosen. I was very suicidal during the last 6 months working in that career and spent many nights debilitated with dread for the work day ahead.

I felt like I would rather disappear than live that version of reality for longer than I already had. The future felt draining, unfulfilling and bleak. I knew I had to make a change. It was either them (the job) or me. I chose myself and it has been the best decision of my entire life. It was time to step into alignment with what was true for me. That decision created a ripple effect, as most things do, and sent me on a new journey.

A journey where I traveled to South America and volunteered at a plant medicine retreat, A journey that introduced me to the practice of yoga and reiki, both of which I am now certified in. A journey that led me to work for a local farm, which nourished my body with organic produce and nourished my spirit with a healthy work environment.

A new journey that allowed my pet sitting business to unfold. How did I get here? With lots of healing and effort, but mostly by staying brave and following all of the things that genuinely bring me joy, which linked me with supportive connections that encouraged me to keep taking leaps of faith that were fueled by passion, excitement, and peace within my heart.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My connection with my clients and their owners has been smooth (mostly), but there have definitely been moments of challenge, especially with elevated separation anxiety levels in humans and pets post COVID pandemic, I’ve expanded my heart and increased my awareness to learn and understand how to better work with the nuance habits, traits and personality types of my clients.

Some of the obstacles that have surfaced are the learning curve of embracing and implementing new skills (preparing contract documents, learning new organizational skills, budgeting, creating fair pricing that honors both myself and my clients, etc.), and wearing hats that I’d neglected or never even tried on before. I learned to give myself grace and space to honor my own pace, make mistakes, ask questions, and figure things out.

Other obstacles have come from challenging and releasing old beliefs that stemmed from outdated racial mentalities of lack, and my own outdated beliefs about what I am capable of achieving as a brown woman. I’ve had to get very clear on where I stand in regard to how I value myself, my time, my energy, and my worth.

Every challenge has been an invitation for me to give life permission to finely shape, curate, and mold my purpose into something more, something greater than the challenges.

We’ve been impressed with I Howl At The Moon For Fun, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I Howl At The Moon For Fun is a professional pet care service that values community, connection, integrity, and authenticity. I specialize in in-client home overnight pet care, drop-in visits, and in-client home doggy daycare.

I am known for being trustworthy, reliable, enthusiastic, patient, and a channeler of soothing reiki energy to anxious pets. I’m also known for throwing epic dance parties with my pet clients, lol.

It isn’t easy to trust someone to care for your pets and your home while you’re away, so I feel honored for the opportunity to take really good care of those in my community and cultivate stronger relationships built on a foundation of trust and integrity. Also, in case you’re wondering, I love to howl at every full moon just for fun.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Empowerment and the power of choice.

When I started taking better care of myself and learned to slow down and simply listen (to my body, energy, the quiet), I was able to shift a lot of old and stagnant energy that kept me stuck in habitual unhealthy patterns and use my power of choice to create experiences that I actually enjoy.

I remind myself often that I am deserving of a good life amongst the chaos. Life feels juicier, more pleasurable, and more fun. this way. Current status: Adoring the choices I’m making.
