Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Manas.
Hi Sydney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I graduated with a degree in Art & Design in 2010 and had no idea what I wanted to do. In every job that I’ve held since then, I’ve always happily helped on events spanning lots of different capacities and industries… from small private occasions like proposals and marketing dinners to large-scale public events like auctions and carnivals. I love the details of design, decor, menus, entertainment overall guest experience… The options are endless. While I loved working for other companies, I have always had an affinity for weddings. I’m a hopeless romantic and knew that I could bring something really interesting to couples who are looking to do something a little (or a lot) unique at their wedding. So finally in 2018, I decided to take this and run with it. It started as a side hustle and took off! It is such an honor to work with couples through their wedding planning process and give them a day that reflects their unique love story.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Covid has been the biggest obstacle in my business. Like many industries, events were put on hold and clients were left to re-evaluate and re-plan (and sometimes re-plan another time) their weddings. Things changed over and over again with what we could and couldn’t do, capacity limits, mask requirements and the list goes on. Staying in the know on the latest was a full-time job but also pertinent to the success of my clients’ events. I feel very lucky that the vast majority of my clients stuck with me and postponed rather than canceled. While these postponed weddings are long overdue, it’s even more satisfying to give them their moment when the day FINALLY comes!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a wedding planner who focuses on unique experiences for couples who want a wedding that is a little less traditional and a little more “them”.
I am so proud of the fact that every wedding I produce will feel like a reflection of the couple and their relationship. Their inside jokes, cultural history, personality quirks, and more all go into the design and details of their wedding.
What makes you happy?
My favorite moment on a wedding day is giving the couple a sneak peek of their reception. It is so special to see them reap the rewards after all of the stress of planning. To see the vision come together IRL and seeing their smiles and surprise makes me so happy.
