Check Out Gabrielle Seunagal’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Seunagal.

Hi Gabrielle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Florida in May 2021 due to the leadership in the state’s government and my interest in a new life chapter; however, my freelance writing career long predates my move to the Sunshine State. I started my writing career back in January 2017, when I was 18 years old and six months out of high school. With time and consistency, I gradually built up a steady base of clients. It took a lot of time, hard work, and persistence. 2017 and 2018 were the toughest times of my career in terms of getting the ball rolling; however, by 2019, I began to truly solidify myself as a writer and become more established.

My work covers a variety of subject matters from politics to mental health, lawn care, business, marketing, and more. Writing is always something I’ve felt deeply connected to and I’m extremely passionate about my career as a freelance writer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The beginning parts of the past 4.5 years was not the smoothest; 2017 and 2018 really involved me pitching myself to clients, applying for different gigs, and building a foundation.

In freelance writing, repeat clients are the lifeblood to a sustainable career; however, it takes time to earn repeat work. It takes time to build relationships with clients and it’s not an overnight process. To this day, I am still working with clients that I first began within 2017 and 2018; however, there were moments during the earlier years of my career where it was a hustle to get work and get consistent work. Thankfully, in 2021, a lack of consistent work is not an issue for me anymore.

In hindsight, I can say that I’m thankful for the struggles I faced in my writing career during 2017 and 2018. Making it through these struggles and being 4.5 years into my career at 23-years-old helped me grow. Building a career from the ground up allowed me to learn more about myself and realize I am capable of achieving anything once I put my mind to it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a freelance writer. A great deal of my work centers around politics and current events; however, this is far from all that I write about. I’ve written articles on business topics, mental and emotional health, and more. Press releases, marketing emails, landing pages, and other pieces also comprise my work.

In the freelance writing community, some will say that it’s smartest to specialize in one singular niche. As someone who’s been in this business for nearly half a decade, I have to disagree. Being what some folks might call a “generalist” has benefited me immensely as a freelance writer. My career would not be where it is today if I only wrote about one topic and one topic alone.

The ability to be versatile is an asset in the freelance writing business. I can research any topic and write an outstanding piece. My work as a freelance writer has also allowed me to gain proficiency with WordPress, SEO, and other critical tools.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Thus far in my career, I haven’t come across a mentor. Aside from my amazing clients, my career as a freelance writer has been a one-woman show. It’s been about doing the work, building the right relationships, and being consistent.

In regards to networking, I would say that Upwork has been an amazing asset to me. Upwork is the number one freelancing platform in the world. Without a doubt, my freelance writing career would not be where it is today without Upwork. I’ve come across so many great clients that I have phenomenal working relationships with to this day, thanks to Upwork. Using Upwork allowed me to establish myself as a writer, earn great reviews from clients, and truly showcase my skills. To this very day, I am still using Upwork and I don’t have any plans to stop.
